Angola Museum’s Milestones of Memories- Sunday-April 8

The Louisiana State Penitentiary Museum Foundation invites you to join us for the 20^thAnniversary Museum’s Milestones of Memories Celebration at the Museum from 1-4pm.  The event will feature a panel of Angola’s museum directors.  Past and present board members will also attend.  A new exhibit documenting the museum’s history will be on display in the Receiving Center annex.   Tours of the museum will be available and light refreshments will be served.  All activities will take place in the Receiving Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

THE BIG CHILL – SATURDAY JULY 2^ND 

West Feliciana Parish Sports Park is hosting the first Big Chill in The Ville, a festival to celebrate the nation’s birthday with music, fun and fireworks. One of the top attractions will be several tons of snow .

Gates open for The Big Chill at 4 p.m. Beginning at 5 p.m., two bands are scheduled to play: Boogie Long & The Blues Revolution as the opener, and the headliner is Phat Hat, which plays popular and contemporary rhythm and blues and dance music. The evening will culminate with a professional fireworks show after dark. Admission to the festival is free.

Photo Day – April 21, 2016 from 5pm-8pm.  This is a paid evening program.  The park will stay open until dark on designated days.  Each person will pay $15 to take pictures throughout the grounds, but not in the buildings, from 5pm until dark around 8pm.  Photographers will make reservations in advance to take the desirable sunset pictures of Rosedown.  Payment will be required before 5pm and a parking pass will be issued.  The scheduled days are the first and third Thursdays in April and May.

Tickets can be purchased at the Bank of St. Francisville or by calling BRSO ticket office 225-383-0500 or at the door.   West Feliciana Parish Tourism THINK TANK 2014 - An Opportunity for Public Input In the Fall of 2014 the West Feliciana Parish Tourist Commission (WFPTC) began an endeavor to improve its strategy to attract visitors of all types with an overall goal of increasing occupancy throughout the calendar year and improving the economic impact of tourism in the parish. This endeavor began with a series of charrettes (think tanks) targeting specific stakeholder groups and will end with a community charrette open to the public. Information gathered at all charrettes will form the basis for the WFPTC Strategic Plan. A public charrette will be held on Tuesday January 27th, 2015 at the West Feliciana Library between 4pm and 6pm. Members of the WFPTC, along with Tourism Executive Director, Laurie Walsh, will be on hand to facilitate discussion. We are excited about this process and look forward to your input. Rosedown Plantation SHS October 27-November 3 Rosedown Plantation will be showcasing Rosedown Funeral and Soul Stories.  The Rosedown Main House will be in mourning as Rosedown Interpretive Staff honors the memory of Daniel Turnbull.  Throughout the week, the house will be decorated according to 19th century mourning customs and on October 31st, at 4pm the staff will be dressed in 19th century-style mourning costumes and will present a first person interpretation of the Turnbull-Bowman family members as they speak about their lives and share reminiscences from the pasts.
