An Enslaved Life Feb. 9th 10:00AM – 4:00PM
Come to Audubon State Historic Site and explore life for the African American enslaved persons who worked at Oakley Plantation. A tour of the slave cabins will relate life for the enslaved on the plantation and how they adapted to their condition. Other demonstrations will include a taste of food, daily tasks, and recreation on a plantation.

On February 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., there will be an exhibit of original found art by Kelly Ward and Marcia KistnerRoberg at the Arts for All Studio, located at 5877 Commerce St. in the Quarters in St. Francisville. "I Found my Art in St. Francisville" will include various three-dimensional pieces of art by these two local artists. According to Lynn Wood, owner and manager of the Birdman Coffee and Books Café, "There is no art comparable to this. It's a 'must see'!"
For those zany, free-spirited artists and art-lovers who love a parade, at 4:00 p.m. an anyone-can-participate parade will take place from the Arts for All Studio to the Birdman Coffee and Books at 5687 Commerce St. Participants are encouraged to be creative in their dress and may make music on the parade route with kazoos, tin pans, or any musical instrument anyone can invent. Although motorized vehicles are prohibited, tricycles, bicycles, wagons, and strollers are encouraged.
The parade will end with a potluck party at the Birdman. Donations for the area Arts for All are welcomed. Arts for All is an organization that encourages the arts in West Feliciana Parish.
Feb. 16-17, Audubon State Historic Site, St. Francisville – The War of 1812 Living History Encampment, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. During the years of the nearly forgotten War of 1812, a foreign invader burned the White House, the United States invaded Canada, and the sounds of cannon fire and battle could be heard in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Visitors will see the Age of Napoleon come to life though volunteers in reproduction uniforms and clothing of the War of 1812. Feb. 16, Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site, St. Francisville – African and Caribbean Influence, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. In recognition of Black History Month, State Parks staff will discuss and demonstrate the tremendous influence of African and Caribbean peoples to the cooking heritage of the Antebellum South. Visitors will receive printed menus and recipes of all dishes prepared during this demonstration, highlighting the specific African and Caribbean influences in each recipe.
