Happenings

Back To School

West Feliciana Parish Schools welcome students back to the classroom on Thursday, August 14.  Please be aware of the school buses on our local roads and highways and remember that they carry our precious children to and from school every week day.

Farmer’s Market

Same place, same time.  Every Thursday from 1 pm until 5 pm at the 4-H Barn on Wilcox Street.  Come out and support our local farmers.

Life on a Plantation

The interpretive staff at Audubon State Historic Site offers this program every weekend in August from 10 am until 4 pm.  Each Saturday the program will feature a different aspect of life on a plantation in the 1800’s.  For more information, call 635-3739.

Lost Arts Saturday

Rosedown State Historic Site presents the Lost Art of Ice Cream Making on Saturday, August 16 from 11 am – 3 pm.  The staff will give demonstrations and, best of all, tasting!

Creatures of the Night

This evening program will showcase the nocturnal animals at Audubon State Historic Site.  On Saturday, August 16 from 8 pm until 9 pm, the interpretive staff invites you to join them for an evening nature walk to observe Louisiana’s native nightlife such as bats, spiders, and lightening bugs.  Don’t forget to wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight if you’d like.  For more information, call 635-3739.

High Noon

It’s one of my favorite classic movies and stars Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.  Rosedown State Historic Site will demonstrate the different types of duels throughout history and the rules that governed them.  They’ll also discuss the most well know duels and duelists in history.  Join them on Saturday, August 23 at, well, High Noon of course.

White Linen Night

St. Francisville Main Street Merchants have teamed up to present “White Linen Night” on Saturday, August 23 at 6 pm featuring its unique shops, sensational food and lively music throughout downtown St. Francisville.   The Highlands Bank Trolley will provide transportation along the “White Linen Route” with stops at designated spots near convenient parking.   Participating merchants will play host to various artists and musicians while samples from local restaurants can be tasted along the way.  Trolley stops will be conveniently located near parking areas and will be posted with easily identified signage.  Maps naming participating businesses and other conveniences will also be available.  For more information and for a list of participating businesses, log on to www.stfrancisvillefestivals.com, phone St. Francisville Main Street at 225-635-3873, or visit the Information Center in the West Feliciana Historical Society Museum for a brochure.
