Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site The Cotton Experience: Variable Dates September through November, 2011, 10 am-4 pm. This brief encounter allows guests to experience the job of cotton picking. During these months visitors are able to walk amongst rows of cotton plants, pluck bolls of cotton from the plants and complete this task by removing the seeds from the bolls. Once the cotton is picked and deseeded, visitors can drop the cotton in an authentic "cotton sack." For more information, call

Southern Garden Symposium-October 14 & 15th our 2011 program promises to be one of the most informative and entertaining ever. Friday's highlights include a floral design demonstration by the very popular Sybil Sylvester of Birmingham, Alabama; a wonderful presentation on old garden tools by Guilluame Pellerin of Normandy, France; and more. Lectures will continue on Saturday with programs by noted speakers including Mr. M. Lindsay Bierman, Editor-in-Chief of
Southern Living and Linda Gay, Director of Houston, Texas' Mercer Arboretum. To top off each day, two of St. Francisville's loveliest private homes, Wyoming Plantation and White's Cottage, will open their doors for the Speakers' Gala and Saturday Tea respectively. As in previous years, we will offer for sale the finest garden books and tools as well as an array of southern plants to satisfy every desire. In addition, Saturday's silent auction will be full of fantastic wares. Oct. 15-16, Audubon State Historic Site, St. Francisville - Civil War at Oakley, Saturday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This program focuses on the events leading up to and the succession of Louisiana from the United States in 1861 as part of the Civil War Sesquicentennial. Imahara's Botanical Garden – Sunday October 16th 5341 Mahoney Rd. Change is in the Air. Fall Garden Open House from 9am until 4pm. Several new additions to the garden Japanese Cherry Trees, Crape Myrtles and hundreds of Camellias. OLLI Welcomes Members and Non-members to October Programs Members of OLLI have much to choose from in the month of October in addition to the roster of classes already announced and underway. A free coffee welcomes members and non-members, fifty years of age and older who love learning, to get a peek into OLLI programming.
On October 18, Robert Ryder will be the guest speaker at a free coffee for members and non-members alike at
9:30 am at the First Baptist Church, Hwy 61 and Hwy. 10 in St. Francisville.
Home-baked goods will be served.
Ryder, an LSU graduate and captain of LSU's Offensive team for the 1969 "once defeated, uninvited" LSU football team, will entertain attendees with his Tiger Tales. His stories, known by those on the sidelines and the players in the locker room, were not necessarily known even by the coaches. Ryder spent 33 years in the banking business in Louisiana before retiring in 2005 from JP Morgan Chase as Regional Chief Executive for Louisiana and Oklahoma. He has served as president of the LSU National "L" Club and as a member of both the LSU Athletic Council and the Charles McClendon Scholarship Foundation
. On October 20, members who have already signed up will enjoy a field trip to River Bend Power Plant, from 8:30 am to Noon, in St. Francisville. This trip is filled, but there are many openings for the October 21
st Nature Walk to Cat Island to see the wonderful giant cypress trees. Participants will be carpooling from the parking lot at First Baptist Church at 9:30 am with the walk at Cat Island at 10:00. Al Troy will be leading the walk and there is no charge to members...

The Myrtles Halloween Extravaganza The Myrtles Plantation 2011 Halloween Experience is scheduled for Friday, October 28-Monday, October 31, 2011. Our hours are 6 pm-10 pm Friday, Saturday & Monday and 6 pm-9pm Sunday. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in our Gift Shop. Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale The Friends of the West Feliciana Library will have its annual book sale at the St. Francisville Town Hall at11926 Ferdinand Street on Saturday, October 29 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Darlene Reaves and Pat Heurtin are co-chairs of this event, which benefits both the people who attend this event as well as the West Feliciana Parish Library.
West Feliciana Parish Hospital will be hosting the annual health fair October 29, 9am till 2pm, as well. Various health screenings and vendors with health education will be available on site.
